My road to Cornerstone Baptist Church: I have had the privilege of serving in 3 churches prior to CBC. While at the Empire State Baptist Seminary I was Minister of Music, then Youth Director, then Assistant to the Pastor, and finally Interim Pastor before going to my first pastorate at Calvary Baptist Church in Harford, NY. After 3 years of ministry there I was called to the Maranatha Baptist Church in Sinking Spring, PA. I served Maranatha for 9 years before being called to Cornerstone Baptist Fellowship, in Camden, ME. I came to Cornerstone after reading Psalm 34, and the Lord made it very clear that Cornerstone was where my family and I should be. I came to CBC in 1991 just prior to it becoming a church. I will have completed my 19th year as pastor here on February 1, 2010.
Most influential person in my life: My Father, Austin E. Gillam. My Dad has consistently led by example as well as by instruction. He has always given me spiritual counsel directly from the Scriptures. I thank God that my Dad is still with us and enjoying his 87th year.
Best book I've read in the last year: “Already Gone, Why your kids will quit church and what you can do to stop it,” by Ken Ham and Britt Beemer with Todd Hillard. This a challenge that every pastor must face. I appreciate the directions and the suggestions made which may lead to correcting the problem of our children’s departure from sound local churches. It is an incredible challenge for this generation of the church.
One favorite verse: Psalms 17:15 “As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.”
Pastor Gillam and his wife Barb have two daughters and two grandchildren.
